PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Department of Defence had an erosion control issue on an embankment at HMAS Kuttabul, Garden Island in Sydney New South Wales. The embankment suffered water ingress due to the recent heavy rains, causing it to slip and open up tension cracks at the top of the batter. If left untreated there would likely be a large landslide undermining the tennis courts located on the top of the fill.

OUR SOLUTION

Geofabrics recommended a reinforced Geomat to stabilise the embankment from further movement. This application also allows grass seeds to be sprayed on the surface, which eventually creates an aesthetically pleasing grassed batter

PRODUCT USED

Reinforced Geomat

  • A reinforced three-dimensional geocomposite, strengthened with a doubletwist steel wire mesh for better surface protection of very steep slopes and areas susceptible to erosion
  • Provides up to 200kN/m strength resistance in soil reinforcement applications
  • Continuity of lining is easily achieved by lacing the edges together with binding wire or metal rings without overlapping
  • Protects seeded topsoil from washout and encourage vegetation
