MEGAFLO GREEN DRAIN PIPE DELIVERS PGA CHAMPIONSHIP CONDITIONS AT SANDHURST GOLF COURSE
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In 2005, the Sandhurst Golf Course in Cranbourne was constructed on challenging ground conditions that made establishing a high-quality playing surface difficult. The new 18-hole course was designed to host the 2006 PGA Championships, requiring professional-level standards for both playability and durability.
During winter, the silty clay soils became saturated, making the course unplayable. In summer, the soils dried out, causing shrinkage cracks and leaving the surface rock hard. Managing these extreme seasonal conditions was critical to delivering a course suitable for championship play.
OUR SOLUTION
To address these challenges, the course design incorporated Megaflo® Green socked slotted drain pipe, installed in accordance with the United States Golf Association (USGA) Method of Green Construction. The USGA is the governing body for golf in the United States and is responsible for setting the rules of golf, overseeing championships, and establishing internationally recognised standards for golf course construction and maintenance.
Adopting the USGA Method ensures the course’s putting surfaces meet strict technical performance criteria, supporting reliable water management, healthy turf growth, and professional-quality playing conditions.
Megaflo Green delivers efficient sub-surface drainage across the course, preventing waterlogging in winter and reducing surface hardness in summer. The result is a consistent, playable course throughout the year, capable of supporting championship-level events as well as everyday play.
