Topic:

Moisture Management for Stronger Pavements

Course Overview:

Despite overwhelming evidence that proper drainage significantly extends the service life of asphalt pavements, it remains an often-overlooked component in pavement design. Poor drainage leads to early pavement distress, increased maintenance costs, and reduced structural performance.

This session will explore the critical role of effective drainage in pavement performance, with a focus on subsurface drainage systems incorporating geosynthetics. We will review the evolution of drainage solutions, the current practices and limitations of conventional approaches, and examine how advancements such as wicking geotextiles are offering practical, cost-effective alternatives to traditional methods.

Speakers:

Cory Hoesing

Cory Hoesing is the State Manager for Geofabrics Australasia, bringing over 15 years of experience in the Queensland region. He has played a key role in promoting the use of geosynthetics in the construction of loaded structures, particularly in road and rail projects. His work has led to improved structural integrity, longer asset life, and more efficient construction methodologies through the effective integration of geosynthetic materials.

With more than two decades of experience in civil engineering, Cory specialises in the practical application of advanced materials across infrastructure projects. He has developed extensive expertise in delivering solutions that enhance the performance, durability, and sustainability of civil works.

Cory’s contributions reflect a strong commitment to continuous improvement and a collaborative approach to delivering infrastructure outcomes that address the evolving needs of modern transportation networks.
