Geosynthetics for Building

Geofabrics offers a range of innovative geosynthetic solutions across the building sector, including stormwater, structural, architectural and landscaping products.

Our range of geosynthetics solutions can help builders save time and money while serving various functions on-site for both residential and commercial applications:

  • Soil reinforcement
  • Separation between different types of soil to avoid mixing and reducing mechanical performance
  • Filtration behind hydraulic structures
  • Drainage control
  • Erosion control blankets to protect the slope and avoid erosion

Our solutions are designed to help builders optimise land use, reduce costs, and speed up construction while meeting clients' needs and addressing the ongoing challenges of climate change resilience.

APPLICATIONS

Erosion & Sediment Control

A range of sediment control solutions are available for use during site establishment and construction.

Erosion control mats are categorised as either biodegradable, made from 100% natural fibres that are often applied as a temporary cover; or are non-biodegradable, made from synthetic fibres to provide permanent coverage. They primarily differ in the material used as well as the thickness of the mat and its relevant applications.

The overall aim in using geosynthetics in erosion control is to maintain soil cover either as a temporary measure offering protection from soil loss while vegetation is established or as a permanent control measure, typically on steeper slopes.

Subsoil Drainage

Megaflo Green is an alternative to conventional, round agi drain pipe that collects and removes water rapidly due to its unique flat shape and ribbed profile. It is ideal for use in landscaping applications such as behind retaining walls, under driveways and paths. It’s the most effective system on the market for drainage of lawns and turf.

Compared to 100 mm diameter round agi pipe, Megaflo Green drains water up to 4.9 times faster. Its slim 40 mm wide profile permits faster and more cost-effective installation in a narrower trench.

Our Geosheet is a single or double cuspated HDPE sheet or blanket designed to provide vertical drainage behind bridge abutments, retaining walls and in basements. It replaces the conventional use of aggregate, which can be expensive and difficult to compact to form a vertical drainage layer.

Stormwater Management

An underground modular water storage system such as the Atlantis Flo-Vault offers an effective solution which uses surface and underground infiltration techniques, resulting in clean water that can be re-used or allowed to re-enter the natural water system.

Reinforced Slopes & Retaining Walls

Maccaferri Gabions are used widely in the building industry to create visually appealing architectural walls.

Our Tensar Keystone TW3 concrete block wall system is engineered for vertical walls under high loads to help optimise land use.

Flood Protection

Floods cannot be prevented but can be managed with Maccaferri FlexMac, a lightweight and flexible unit made of hexagonal double-twisted wire mesh, that is reinforced with steel rods and internally lined with a non-woven geotextile. The units are filled with available materials such as sand and gravel, to create a longitudinally safety barrier around critical infrastructure.

For flood mitigation and control, FlexMac is 40 times faster to construct than traditional sandbags; enabling quick response times and rapid deployment in emergency situations.
