In December 2017 it was announced to Geofabrics’ staff and suppliers that after almost 30 years of service Chris Brockliss would retire from Geofabrics NZ Ltd at the end of June 2018.
Chris has been a pioneer for geosynthetics in New Zealand, starting the New Zealand arm of Geofabrics (then known as Maccaferri) in October 1988. During his early years with the company he dedicated himself to introducing the engineering community to the solutions geosynthetics could offer for a wide range of engineering problems. It is without irony that it can be said that Chris is one of the founding fathers of the geosynthetics industry in the region.
During his career Chris also spent a 5-year period in Australia as the regional head of both the Maccaferri Australia and New Zealand businesses. Later, in the mid-2000s, Chris oversaw a restructure and refresh of the Australian Maccaferri operation.
Chris served as a member of Geofabrics Group’s senior executive team and leadership teams until the end of 2017 before turning his focus in the first semester of 2018 to the smooth transition of the Group’s New Zealand and Pacific operations to a new leadership headed by Simon Moran, General Manager of Sales.
Chris will depart leaving the business in great shape with a high performing, customer focussed, motivated team whose success has been founded on a strong focus on people, training, design and practical use of geosynthetics to solve engineering, economic and environmental problems.
While Chris may not be fully retiring from an active working life, we thank him for his significant contribution to the success of our Group and we wish him all the very best for the future, particularly as he increases his focus on his other passions beyond geosynthetics: family, sailing and tramping.
